The trunk wouldn't fit in our trunk...

Sunday afternoon while driving back from Fredericton, I told Steph - I don't want to go home and do nothing yet, I want to do something super awesome cool. (Yes, I'm quite juvenile at times :P) He says - er.... What kind of super awesome cool thing ? Me - Let me think. Then as we turned on the exit for Mapleton rd, I saw the "Flea Market" sign. OH OH I know, let's go to that Flea Market on Elmwood Dr. that we've been hearing about! Miraculously he agreed to come to the Flea Market, for a few minutes. I have a fascination with boxes. I have no idea why. I love music boxes, jewelry boxes, old vintage tin cans, cedar chests and any kind of trunk. At first I fell in love with a gorgeous cedar chest but the old guy wanted 250$ for it. Too much for my budget. As we were browsing we saw durdle and Jenn coming in. We all agreed 250$ was too much for the chest. I walked around the market twice looking at all the wooden boxes and vintage tin cans, and finally settled on a 25$ old trunk like my grandmother used to have. The old guy apparently bought it from nuns at an old convent. It looks like a big treasure trunk, I love it! It even smells like my grandmother :P

Steph and I carried the trunk outside. Steph had assured me that it would fit in the car's trunk. So I take our luggage out of the trunk and stick it in the backseat next to Loki's crate (with Loki in it), and we try to fit the trunk in the trunk, and it just doesn't work. So then Steph tries to stick the trunk in the passenger side and I'd miraculously fit my arse in the backseat with Loki and his crate. The trunk wouldn't fit in the passenger seat. Then we decided to dismantle Loki's crate, fit THAT in the trunk, put the trunk in the backseat with the luggage, and Loki in the passenger seat with me. Of course one rusted screw/bolt would NOT budge. As we were trying to smash the crate into the trunk durdle & jenn came out of the Market and saved us hehe. Durdle had some sort of utility tool and after a few (long) minutes, the crate was in 2 pieces in the trunk and durdle was injured and bleeding. Oops! I wish I had had something to thank them with, like money to pay for his gas to the hospital for a tetanus shot :P hehe But we had spent our last dollar on that trunk. Durdle, if you're reading, we'll donate extra to your MS bike run next year ;)

The trunk is now in my guest bedroom... I keep going in there to look at it and smell it. I should probably febreeze it but then it won't smell like my grandmother anymore... LOL. I'd like to paint it and put it at the foot of our bed.. but I'm scared that Loki would pee on it :-S I'm also not quite sure what I want to store in it yet.... I'm not sure blankets would stay very fresh in such an old trunk ? I feel like I should hide treasures in it.... or pack my stuff and go on a Titanic cruise hehe.

Ooooh I love stuff like that! Trunks and crates and boxes are totally cool. I'm glad you found a cool one. If you decide you do want to use it for blankets, etc., you have have a carpenter line it with cedar so your linens will stay fresh and clean!

ooh, I'm with you on boxes and trunks and cookie tins... love those :-)

I actually have an old overseas trunk (think Titanic) that had been (according to family lore) to Canada before I was ever born. It belonged to my great-grandfather, who decided one day to up and leave his wife and kids and try his fortune in Canada. Great-grandma ended up having to work in the factory to make ends meet, and then a few years later he showed up again with not a penny to his name, and she took him back in. I guess a loser husband is still better than having to work in the factory yourself :-)
Anyhow, the trunk is now in my living room and I store blankets for the couch in the bottom compartment, and all my wrapping paper in the tray :-)
