Inflation of the romance currency

I hope you all had a fabulous Valentine's day. Here's how mine went:

After work my husband surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of calla lillies. Then we went to eat a romantic tete-a-tete dinner at Pastalli's, then we went to see one of the movies that I've been wanting to see for a while "The Pursuit of Happyness", we came home and had wild sex. Then we watched lost. After that he checked our lotto tickets and we had won the jackpot, and I told him that we were finally pregnant.

Yeah, that was totally made up. I wanted to forget for the time it took me to write that paragraph, that my DH (D does not always stand for "dear" husband) did not acknowledge Valentine's day whatsoever. *pouts* Maybe he was waiting to do something really awesome for our 5th "Engagement Anniversary" on Feb 15th? Nope.

Why must I be such a girl and care about this overrated artificial made up holiday anyway? I don't know... could it be all those years of not having a boyfriend on v-day? The year my high expectations quickly crashed down when my then serious boyfriend greeted me in sweatpants and microwaved chicken balls? Might I add that the sweatpants had elastics at the ankles. And that I had gotten him every single thing he had recently mentioned fancying? Or could it be all those v-days where I would receive about 30 Hippopotamus paper valentines in my paper bag valentine mailbox because everyone had the same valentine cut-out book and there happened to be a valentine featuring a Hippo on it?

I don't know... but is a LITTLE romance too much to ask? One of my 2007 resolutions was to start a card collection so that I would never have to run to the store at the last minute to get one. Especially since I'm VERY picky about the cards I chose. I literally will spend hours in the card store reading every single card for the specific occasion. In french AND in english. Never know. Well anyway, last month I bought a nice card storage box which already contained a blank generic card collection. He could have taken one of the cards and signed it and given me a card that I bought myself! That would have been almost acceptable.

Hey how weird is it that there's a woman waiting for the bus outside my office window holding a single red rose? Oh yeah and the worst part about a non-v-day v-day is seeing all those women walk to their cars downtown holding their v-day loot.

So anyway, since I'm a government employee after all, I've decided to extend his deadline until the end of February. I hope he at least sends an e-card!

Hugs, Nancy! Want me to come bop Steph on the head for you?

You do crack me up though...the government employee extension is too funny!

Hugs, hon! I'll come along with Kels to bop Steph on the head!

Our Valentine's was less than stellar, too - note: I didn't even mention it on my blog. LOL.

Whatever happened? Valentine's really seems like an unmarried people's holiday!

Valentine's day is over-rated! Such a pressure. Hope you had a great weekend :)

What a poop! But don't forget, he *did* give you that egg that blew up all over, right. ;-)

Aaww, I so understand. Last year the same thing happened to me. This year I had gotten used to the idea of not getting much for v-day, so I didn't do anything myself...but THEN, my bf bought me a bouquet and I felt cheap for the rest of the night for not buying him anything! I don't know which is worse, really...

By the way, calla lillies are my favorite too... I never had any, but I think they're beautiful!
