Bonne Fete des Acadiens!!

I'm feeling so homesick. I always do every August 15 - the Acadian National Holiday. I wish I were back home getting ready for the partys and the tintamarre. Literally translated, "tintamarre" means "loud racket." every year on the 15th of August (the Acadian national holiday) at 6:00 pm, some 25,000 people march down a closed-off segment of Saint-Pierre Boulevard in Caraquet, making as much noise as possible with anything they can get their hands on: pots, pans, shakers, drums, tin cans, whistles, etc. The sheer spirit, the raw energy and the wild enthusiasm of this sea of people made-up in Acadian colours and waving Acadian flags is simply impossible to top. It's an ancient Acadian tradition which was revived in 1979 as part of the celebrations surrounding Acadie's 375th year of existence.

Why am I here, wishing I was there ? Well first my husband isn't really an Acadian. Well he is, but he grew up in Ottawa and Fredericton mostly and has never celebrated his acadian heritage. My 3 best friends aren't acadian and I've lost touch with most of my friends up home :/ I'm sure if I drove myself to Caraquet and went to the tintamarre I would be reunited with a lot of friends, but I'm not adventurous enough to go alone. Tina likes to party, maybe I could make her dress in red, white and blue and pretend to be acadian and come with me to Dieppe's lame attempt at an Acadian party tonight hehe. Doh, I just remembered her vacation is over. Maybe I'll have to drag Steph hehe.

Ave Maris Stella

Ave Maris Stella,
Dei Mater Alma,
Atque Semper Virgo
Felix Coeli Porta

Acadie ma patrie
À ton nom, je me lie,
Ma vie, ma foi sont à toi
Tu me protégeras.

Acadie ma patrie (mon pays)
Ma terre et mon défi
De près, de loin tu me tiens
Mon cœur est acadien

Acadie, ma patrie
Ton histoire, je la vis
La fierté, je te la dois
En l'avenir, je crois

Ave Marie Stella

I would much rather dress up in re and blue and go stand in the rain in dieppe then go to my energy draining night shift. I'd even rather go nakid with blue and red body paint then go to work....

lol
