Some days are harder...

You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the facts of life. The facts of life! I've had this song stuck in my head since yesterday. I've been humming it at the office and then I don't remember if it went away or not but Mindy wrote 'facts of life' (not in reference to the tv show though) on her blog and that darn song is back full force!!

Some days it's really really REALLY hard to stay motivated to lose weight and get fit. Right now, all I want is a nice big non-measured, non-calculated plate of shepperd's pie. Mmm. That would be SO good. But I know by now that even a 1 cup serving of shepperd's pie makes me bloat like 10lbs. I'm not kidding. Potatoes are like my nemesis. But they're sooo good. Cream corn the same thing. GAH why must everything good in life be fattening or illegal?

The day started really great when I stepped on the scale and saw that I had finally got past that darn 270! This morning I was 268, bringing me to a total of -79.6. I felt really cute this morning with my new top. I'm all set for tops for fall/winter. But my pants are falling off me. Even my shoes are big. Well. They have a pant sale at Pennington's till Saturday. I went over there on my lunch hour, and NOTHING fit right. nothing. Not even sale price worthy. My size 22 pants that I have on are literally falling off me. I tried 3-4 pairs of size 22 pants and they were too tight. WTH!! Then I tried on a pair of size 24, and it was really way too big. way way like bigger than that pants I'm wearing right now. I had to pull them up to my boobs. Then I tried a pair of size 20 in non-petites (because the petites come in just the right lenght for me), and they fit better than the size 22 petites. But still not enough to buy them. I always have problems finding nice dress pants that don't make me look like I'm 40. UGH!

So... what the fuck ever man. I've been starving and eating yucky food for almost a year and I've lost almost 80lbs and I force myself to do some painful exercise and I still haven't gone down a pant size ? What the fuck is up with that? When I got measured for new compression socks last month, she said that my ankle & calf measurements haven't really changed either. So where am I losing weight exactly? Besides my fingers because I can't wear my wedding rings anymore. Am I only losing in the boobs and between my toes and behind my ears? between my ears maybe...

Was it just Murphy's law that I didn't find a single pair of pants because there was a pant sale? I guess the store manager DID come talk to me and raved about my weight loss and how much it showed in my face etc. I mean.. I don't even care about the stupid number on the tag. I just want 3 nice pairs of dress pants that fit around the middle AND that doesn't sag down to my knees. A black pair, a brown pair, and a grey pair. Is that too much to ask, universe? Pant Gods? anyone ? Maybe I should be praying to the sewing machine Gods instead so that my sewing machine which I don't know how to use whatsoever takes it upon itself to take my pants in magically.

Does anyone else have a way harder time finding dress pants that fit vs casual pants and jeans ?

79 pounds - WHOOT!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go!! Don't get discouraged about sizes. I don't understand clothing sizes AT ALL, and it is virtually impossible for me (and most everyone, I think) to just walk into a store and buy "my size." I always have to take "my size", one size smaller and one size larger. Never know what's going to fit.

Adding more exercise is always a great way to lose inches along with the pounds.

Stick with it - you're doing GREAT!

Way to go, Nancy! That 79 lb loss is very impressive!

Clothing sizes are very frustrating. Is there a good seamstress near you who can take in the pants you already own? That might get you through to the next size/shopping trip. ;)

I have a favorite pair of jeans and I want more just like them. I went to the store where I bought them and they have all the variations (boot cut, relaxed fit, etc.) but none of them are *exactly* the same. I wish I'd known when I'd bought them how great they'd be; I would have bought 3 or 4 pair!

I am so happy for you that you are doing so well with getting healthy! How is your diabetes? Have you ever been tested for food allergies? Did you know potatoes and corn are pretty common food allergies?

I think nice work pants are the hardest thing ever to buy. I really do. If I find a pair that isn't skin tight across my thighs while still fitting properly around my "modern fit - sits just below the waist" (WHAT is that?) - it's a damned miracle. And then I buy 3 pairs.

Actually - I have a hard time with all pants. And jeans.

Oh, and thanks for getting that song in my head! LOL

Wow, Nancy, 79lbs!! Yeehaw!!!

I find it very difficult to find dress pants too. They are either gappy in the waist or the crotch hangs down to my knees, or they drag on the floor because I'm just between petites and regular. Petites being just a tad too short and regular being too long. Blar!
Oh, and nevermind the fact that it seems whatever a size is in one store isn't necessarily the same in another store...can't they standardize these things?!?!
Anyhow, sorry to rant, but I just want to let you know I feel your pain.

Sorry, no advice for the pants, but Nancy, you have lost 79 pounds this year!!! That is SUCH an accomplishment! And you know what? Who cares if you are bloated for a couple of days, if you really want that piece of shepards pie, go for it. It's healthier to indulge once in a while in something you really really want then to constantly say no. Every fitness magazine I read says its okay to cheat once in a while. You've earned it :) Keep up the good work girl! You've probably just plateaued, it happens to all of us, but you'll start losing again soon, and I know I can tell a difference in your pictures, you're looking great!

79 pounds - way to go, Nancy!! I just can't get over how you've accomplished that, that's just so awesome!!

As far as pants go, though, same problem here. You'd think that since I look a bit more like the models in the ads, I'd actually fit into those pants... you'd be wrong. Pants that are long enough are too big up top, those that fit around my waist are too tight at the thighs, and half the time they're too short, too. I can't buy pants without belt loops because I can't wear any of my pants without a belt, and dress pants I routinely bring to be taken in at the waist as well.

But I second Roseann's suggestion, see if you can't find someone who can make your current pants fit better to hold you over until the next sale. It's probably cheaper than buying new pants, and you'll definitely get pants that fit your body, not some arbitrary fitting model's.

79 pounds! WOW. That is INCREDIBLE.
I second RoseAnn on the seamstress thing - clothing sizes are so wacky, your money is probably better spent taking in some of what you have until you get closer to a size you'll stay.

I have the opposite problem from you - jeans are much less forgiving than my dress pants. Sigh. If I don't get this weight off, I'm going to only have one pair of pants to wear this winter.

It's the exercise, I can't get motivated to exercise. You're an inspiration, I am SO going to the gym tonight!!!

Hey Nancy,

I know exactly what you are saying. I know I am commenting on an old blog, but I want you to know that I am right there with you. I am actually scared to even try anything on because I know I have went up a size since I have last bought clothes. Sigh. I will just have to try and lose weight to fit into my closet. Hang in there, your progress is already amazing. I also agree that you should go ahead and have a bit of the shephards pie, just not too much.
Take care and keep up the good work!
